Since I can never think of what to blog about, I decided to swipe this meme from Jen
The Rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book of 123 (or more) pages.
Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong
2. Open the book to page 123 and find the 5th sentence.
Some authors actually cite the "Star Spangled Banner" as the main outcome!
3. Post the next 3 sentences.
Others claim that the war left "a feeling of pride as a nation" or "helped Americans to win European respect." The American Adventure excels, pointing out, "The American Indians were the only real losers in the war." Triumph of the American Nation expresses the same sentiments, but euphemistically: "After 1815 the American people began the exciting task of occupying the western lands."
4. Tag 5 people.

A New Name!
Whoa! I can't believe it's been nearly 6 months since I last posted here. That's pathetic.
I've adopted a new blog name. I'm tired of the "knots" part, and through a collaborative effort with a few knitster friends, we came up w/ .knits for a Ravelry group, and now -- with trepidation -- I'm stealing it. I hope they don't mind.
I've been trying to find the brain power to write a worthwhile blog post for a couple of months now, but I'm all tapped out. There's nothing going on in my life that I really want to blog about. Yeah, there are things going on, but not things I want to publish publicly. Family things ... all good ... so that's a relief.
On the homeschooling front, we basically took the month of February off of our normal studies. February, for some reason, is the month where I start feeling like I need to redo all of our curriculum. I'm trying to refrain from that this year, but I do think there will be some things we will do away with. I think that if we focus our efforts on History, Math and Science, we can work enough Language Arts in there that we'll be good. The kids have great language skills, anyway, so I'm not overly concerned. I'm also going to work an art course in for them when we get back from vacation, and DS needs to go through some achievement testing so he can be ready for High School next year.
HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!! Help!!! I'm terrified about this, but at the same time, I'm kind of excited for him. Overall, I think it will be a good thing, but it will bring it's own set of challenges.
In the knitting world, things continue to move along. I'm working on Mr. Greenjeans from Knitty. It's going surprisingly fast when I actually get to work on it. I really hope this will be THE sweater that I will actually feel proud enough to wear in public.
That'll do for now. I'm on vacation, and this is the final full day. Hopefully, I can somehow find the time to put something meaningful out here when we get back. I've had a lot going on in my brain lately, but I haven't really been able to take the time to dump it all out and have it make sense to anyone else. I'll keep working on that.
