A Two FO Week

Well, I had the privilege of getting together with the KH Knitsters over the weekend, and in the course of our knit-in at Fringe (in Aurora), I managed to nearly finish up this little baby gown for the Compassionate Knitting Project on KnittingHelp.com. It's so tiny ... only about 12" from top to bottom. The pattern comes from here.

This is such a touching knit-along. The items are so precious, but it's heart-wrenching to think about why they are needed. If you get a chance, contact your local hospital and find out if they accept donations of preemie and bereavement items in the Neonatal Unit. I know they'll appreciate it.

On a lighter note, a couple of days after finishing the gown, I was able to finally finish up my 2nd pair of socks. These were knit from the Straight-Laced Socks pattern from Knitty.com. I used two circular needles to knit both socks at once. I admit, it was kind of confusing at times, and there were a couple of times when I had to take one sock off in order to execute the needed move on the other one. So, I think the pattern needs a wee bit of tweaking, but overall, it was a fun knit. If I were to do this one again, I would knit the smaller size. These are a bit baggy.

Now, I've moved on to DD's 1st communion sweater while I avoid re-knitting the handles for Tote #5.

Cosmic 'DNA': Double Helix Spotted in Space

I love stuff like this -- stuff that scientists discover for the first time. It's so exciting, and who knows what the meaning or impact really is? Here's the link for those who find space and science as interesting as I do: Cosmic 'DNA': Double Helix Spotted in Space

Perhaps this will trigger a DNA Scarf Knit-Along somewhere. Personally, I don't have time for it right now. How in the world does one "get behind" on one's knitting? This is supposed to be a hobby, right? I guess it's just a reflection of my life. {sigh}

Off I go ... running to try and catch myself. (Thank You, Mark Schultz, for that line!)

We Interrupt This Knitting for a Word About Homeschooling

Well, my goat was gotten this morning when my attention was turned to a column discussing a recent piece that CNN did on "unschooling." (You can read the column here: The At Large Blog: This week's column: A very merry unschooling to you)

So, being the ever-vigilant proponent of homeschooling under the right circumstances, I logged onto the above blog and left my comment, which you can find at the page linked to above.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled knitting.

ETA: I just discovered that this article has been "archived," but I found a link to the entire thing here. Hopefully, it will stick around for a while ... or perhaps I'll figure out a way to archive it in whole myself.
